The North Whidbey Roller Hockey (NWRH) organization was founded in March of 2022 by director Ed Moran. Ed's love and passion for the sport of hockey is what drove him to start hosting pick up games at the Roller Barn Arena in Oak Harbor, WA. What started as a small group of enthusiasts has now turned into a large gathering which has is now referred to as "hockey night in Oak Harbor". Each Wednesday night all different skill levels and abilities, from locals to our friends stationed here in the United States and Canadian Navy.
The NWRH objective is to grow the sport of hockey on Whidbey Island in hopes of creating a small year round house league that is comprised of a youth division and an adult division.
Most citizens are unaware that the Pacific Northwest is has a long history to the sport of hockey, in 1915 the Seattle Metropolitans were founded in the Pacific Northwest Hockey Association and captured the Stanley Cup title in 1917 defeating the Montreal Canadians. Since that time the Pacific Northwest has been home to a variety of professional and junior hockey teams but none bigger than in 2022 when the Seattle Kraken made their debut in the National Hockey League.
